Awe, you want to read more? Shucks, I’m flattered. Here we go:

I’m NOT a fan of negativity or ketchup and I like to say I’m healthily obsessed with travel and fashion. I’m Filipino-American born and raised in Missouri but spent most of my working life traveling and living NYC. In 2012 my life changed when I went on my first backpacking trip across Europe—it triggered my massive passion for travel. Since then I’ve journeyed through 31 countries and even lived aboard in a country called Malta. Never heard of it? Google it, it’s GORGEOUS.

After college, I continued to chase my travel dreams backpacking throughout Asia before scoring a job at a social media advertising agency in NYC. At the time, my post-graduate dreams (outside of traveling the world) consisted of getting a corporate job in media, living in a small -but cozy- NYC apartment, and adopting a French bulldog named Eugene. This job opportunity checked off 2 of those three items, so I cut my travels short and moved my life to Manhattan. My time in the agency life was incredible. I learned so many valuable skills and met beyond brilliant people in the advertising industry, but after a few years -and 3 promotions- I realized my travel the world dreams were slipping away from me—So I quit.

And now I’m back to exploring places that I’ve never heard of and cannot pronounce.

Yeah, yeah… yet another “I quit my corporate life to travel the world” story that you’ve probably read 100x, so let’s shift to something else I’m passionate about. I called it happy-preneurship.

Quite honestly, I made that word up so let me break it down for you—hold on tight, I promise it’ll come together. Let’s start off with a definition:

entrepreneurship | ˌäntrəprəˈnərˌSHip | noun the activity of setting up a business or businesses, taking on financial risks in the hope of profit:   “the new business opportunities have encouraged entrepreneurship on a grand scale.”

Entrepreneurship has always been a huge part of my life. My grandfather owned his own plastic factory along with multiple investment property and my father opened a Café as I was growing up. During my middle and high school years, my step-father opened his own restaurant, and my entire university experience was surrounded by entrepreneurism—with the opening of a brand new facility called the “Regnier Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation”. The Entrepreneurial spirit has certainly followed me throughout my life and until recently I never associated my life disposition with traits of an entrepreneur. So, what are Entrepreneurial traits? Well, that’s a beefy question. There are several studies about “what makes an Entrepreneur” and I won’t get too deep into it, but some of the overarching traits include: passionate, determined, creative, self-starter, etc.

So get to the point… what is happy-preneurship? Here’s my definition:

happy-preneurship | ˈhapē PrəˈnərˌSHip | noun the activity of setting up one’s own happiness or optimistic outlook on life, taking on negative dispositions and/or social risks in the hope of building a happier and fulfilling life: “the new life opportunities have encouraged happy-preneurship on a grand scale.”

Happy-preneurship in simple terms is building your own happiness. It’s the idea of chasing after what makes you happy and building a business, community or life around it. It’s the intersection of working towards happiness and entrepreneurism and that’s exactly what I’m doing—I’m choosing to focus on the things in life that make me happy and build a business/life/community around it.

I think the key to happy-preneurship is dream massively, grind rigorously, and most importantly help others along the way.
